Benjamin Crosland: a weaver of fine woollen fabrics

The company was established as a weaver of fine woollen fabrics in Oakes, Huddersfield, by Mr. Benjamin Crosland who lived in the area from 1849-1917.

The mill grew and prospered under the stewardship of the family, supplying the top merchants, tailors and clothing manufacturers throughout the UK. Speciality fabrics included military dress cloths, fancy woollen jacketing and finer suitings.

The company was purchased by the OMC Group in 1970 and diversified its markets, becoming one of the largest exporters of Huddersfield cloth to the Far East, Middle East and Europe.
